2008 National Congress on Science Education

The 2008 National Congress on Science Education is scheduled for July 16–20 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event will take place at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis and connected to the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome. Page Keeley, NSTA President-Elect, would like to formally invite you to this great event. Click here to view her invitation. Online Leadership Institute (OLI)

NSTA will be adopting a new and slightly different model for this year’s Leadership Institute, normally held in early March here at NSTA headquarters. We’d like to help you build advocacy for vital science education issues over a longer period of time, and more continually, so we are going to provide the tools and resources you need for effective chapter management, leadership, and advocacy virtually instead of on-site at NSTA—the Online Leadership Institute.

We’ve held the first of these “Web Seminars”—on Strategic Planning, in late March. The next two are as follows:

Join the more than 100 student chapters and help your preservice teachers make the transition to confident and effective in service science teachers by starting an NSTA student chapter at your college or university. Nominations for the NSTA Board of Directors and Council

Are you looking for a challenging leadership position that impacts local, state, and national science education? Would you like to serve the association that serves you? We are currently accepting applications for the 2009 NSTA election. You can apply online or download an application at www.nsta.org/nominations. Submission deadline is October 15, 2008.

Handbook Update Information Due by June 13

It’s that time of year again … time to update your organization’s contact information for the 2008–2009 NSTA Handbook. Deadline for submission of information is Friday, June 13, 2008. As president of your organization, you can submit contact and profile updates online. Simply visit the NSTA extranet and enter your Chapter or Associated Group login and password provided to you. Misplaced your login and password? E-mail chapters@nsta.org.

This information will be used to produce the Chapters and Associated Groups section of the 2008–2009 NSTA Handbook and also will be shared with all leaders through a special online portal. If you do not have online access, then download the Chapter and Associated Group Handbook Update Form. If we do not receive updated information, last year’s information will be used. Once again, the deadline for submission is June 13, 2008.

NSTA's SciGuides™ and SciPacks

We continue to add to our offering of SciGuides™ and SciPacks. SciGuides™ are adding new guides on nutrition. The SciPack group will soon release a food science SciPack and one on cell structure. These instructional and national standards-based online learning experiences are designed to further enhance the depth of topics for educators seeking to better their knowledge in certain subject areas.
