Arlington, Va., June 11, 2008—The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning, announced today that four NSTA Press® books, as well as the NSTA journal Science Scope, won the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The award recognizes the year’s most outstanding materials in the field of teaching and learning, and the winners were honored at a gala banquet on Friday, June 6, at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.

Science Scope’s winning column is “Issues In-Depth,” a presentation of content background on timely and core science topics.
Awards entries are rigorously judged by an expert panel of educators, editors, designers, and technology specialists. “We are very pleased that the education community has recognized our books with this honor,” said Claire Reinburg, Director of NSTA Press and Assistant Executive Director. “This is an exciting time in science education, and these new books support NSTA’s mission to provide science educators with classroom tools and publications that promote exemplary teaching.”

The NSTA Ready-Reference Guide to Safer Science also won the Bronze EXCEL Award for Technical Books from the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) at the annual awards dinner held in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, June 11th.
