Informal Science Day

Friday, March 28, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM

We are delighted to announce Informal Science Day at the NSTA 2008 National Conference in Boston on Friday, March 28, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Informal Science Day is a full day packed with exciting informal science presentations and activities. Attendees are invited to participate in some or all parts of this event.

Informal Science Day is intended to build awareness of the abundance of existing high-quality informal science education methods, resources, and opportunities available to enhance science learning. It is designed to offer a “town square” at which both informal and formal science educators can meet and interact to share best practices in informal science, learn about exciting collaborations happening among informal and formal science organizations, network with colleagues, and dialogue around ideas and innovations. Informal organizations represented include museums, media, after-school programs, university outreach, and others that provide and/or support out-of-school science education.

Activities will commence with an informal science reception on Thursday evening. Informal Science Day kicks off on Friday with General Session I, presented by Dr. Dale McCreedy from the Franklin Institute. A variety of breakout presentations will take place throughout the day. Enjoy your brown bag lunch as you enjoy examples of “performance-based science education.” The day will culminate with the upbeat Informal Science Share-a-Thon, where attendees can visit with representatives from many informal organizations as they showcase and share their programs and resources.
