2007 Professional Development Institutes

2007 Professional Development Institutes

For the past three years at its national conferences, NSTA has presented professional development institutes (PDIs)—focused, content-based programs led by NSTA partners that explore key topics in significant depth. Educators attending NSTA’s 2007 National Conference on Science Education in St. Louis can extend their learning with a new component to these popular preconference events. Following the PDIs, pathway sessions will provide an in-depth, three-day learning experience for educators, enabling them to continue to explore the topics covered in the PDIs.

We encourage districts to send a team of educators to take full advantage of this unique opportunity to support strategic planning for professional development. To inquire about a district group discount (first person: $295; each additional person: $245), contact Alex Early at aearly@nsta.org.

Nine institutes are offered, conducted by the following well-known professional development providers and NSTA partners: BSCS Center for Professional Development; Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC); First Hand Learning, Inc.; Lawrence Hall of Science; Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL); National Science Resources Center (NSRC); South Carolina’s Coalition for Mathematics and Science in partnership with South Carolina Dept. of Education’s Mathematics and Science Unit; WestEd, and Washington University Science Outreach (WUSO).

Each institute begins with a full-day session on Wednesday, March 28, followed by additional pathway sessions daily throughout the conference. Institutes are limited to 60 participants each.

For complete descriptions of the PDIs, including pathway sessions, select Prof. Dev. Institute in the St. Louis browser/scheduler.

NSTA professional development institutes are ticketed events, and you must first register for the St. Louis conference to take advantage of this unique training opportunity. Tickets ($295) are available by preregistration only. A continental breakfast and lunch are provided in the ticket price.

Purchase tickets online or download an Advance Registration Form to return by mail or fax.

The PDI providers are presenting programs that were developed through partial funding from the National Science Foundation.
