Today in science history

On November 21 in 1867, Vladimir Ipatieff is born the son of a Moscow architect. Ipatieff became one of history's great hydrocarbon chemists. He discovered the structure of isoprene (the basic molecule in rubber), developed ways to catalytically control breakdown reactions, and produced high-octane gas from low-octane fuels.
