The John Glenn Center for Science Education

The NSTA Learning Center

The Center for Science EducationRecognizing that teachers have limited access to high-quality, content-rich professional development opportunities, the Glenn Commission called for “just-in-time; just-for-me” help for science educators. NSTA is addressing this need through the NSTA Learning Center, a state-of-the-art professional development portal that meets the needs of busy teachers.

The NSTA Learning CenterThe NSTA Learning Center contains thousands of standards-based learning resources and experiences, including SciPacks, on-demand learning experiences that engage teachers through interactive simulations of scientific phenomena, embedded questions, pedagogical implications for the classroom, and access to online content experts and colleagues.

The portal also contains a first-of-its-kind teacher diagnostic suite of tools that connect individual teachers to these resources, and then enable them to assess, plan, and document their progress.

The NSTA Learning CenterTeachers will receive in-depth knowledge of science content, participate in short courses and web seminars, extend collaboration with colleagues beyond face-to-face meetings, and further pursue science and science-teaching topics through recommended readings. This impressive collection of high-quality resources and tools will satisfy the needs of individual teachers, and districts, and will make the NSTA Learning Center the online “homebase” for the science teaching profession.

A widely recognized NSTA certification and accountability program will document the completion of professional development activities for both teachers and their school administrators.
