Reviewer and Program Submission Training at Indianapolis
There will be a conference session at the national NSTA Conference in Indianapolis to help all programs and people who will be submitting an NSTA SPA folio to NCATE. This session will go over the requirements for each Assessment, how to submit each Assessment, how to develop each Assessment, and how each Assessment will be evaluated. This is also a great review session for those people who are current reviewers and those who want to become reviewers. On Saturday, there will be a session on the new standards that will be implemented in fall 2012 and spring 2013 (check the conference program for time and location).

Science Teacher Preparation Programs
NSTA has recently voted to replace and update the 2003 Standards for Science Teacher Preparation. These Standards will be submitted to NCATE SASB in October for NCATE approval. The new standards align well with the conceptual framework of NCATE and the SASB principles, and they should allow programs to continue with their current data collection with minor changes. If approved, NSTA will accept reports and data based upon the new standards in the fall of 2012. The last time to accept reports under the 2003 Standards will be spring 2013. The NCATE website also has a Resource Library that contains more examples of successfully written reports. Go to NCATE and click on the SPA Assessment Library tab on the left. Scroll down to NSTA and hit the display button. This will show you examples from other institutions.
