The SPIR Reviewers
SPIR reviewers are selected from among NSTA members who meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated expertise in understanding research and best practices in K–12 science education (for example, through presentations and publications).
- Experience in science education leadership (for example, planning and implementing professional development, instructional materials selection and implementation, districtwide grant management).
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
Reviewers are trained with the review tools, then apprenticed to an experienced reviewer until their experience and written reports provide evidence that the reviewer can work independently and mentor others.
NSTA staff selects reviewers and supervises each review, providing consistency across all reviews. Your reviewers’ qualifications are available to you, and every effort is made to match reviewer expertise with any special needs (for example, experience in a large urban district, familiarity with specific instructional materials being implemented, or experience with particular professional development concerns).
