Global Conversations in Science Education Conference

To connect science educators from various countries, NSTA holds annual international conferences in conjunction with its national conference since 2006. Plans are currently underway for 2013 at NSTA’s National Conference on Science Education in San Antonio, Texas, April 10–14, 2013.

The Global Conversations Conference recognizes NSTA’s increased emphasis on international collaboration in science education. There are numerous opportunities for international visitors to network together with science educators from various cultures, including those from North America.

Activities for 2013 begin on Thursday, April 11 with a plenary session by Dr. Doris Jorde, Director, Norwegian Centre for Science Education, Oslo, Norway, followed by concurrent sessions related to the conference theme. A full complement of papers will be presented in a poster session, followed by an afternoon plenary speaker, Dr. Jonathan Osborne, Shriram Family Professor of Science Education, Graduate School of Education, Stanford, University, Stanford, California. The day concludes with short presentations from participants on current trends, issues, and best practices from around the world.

The ultimate goal of all NSTA international activities is to engage more American teachers of science in international opportunities with the intent that they will become better teachers in their own classrooms and better impart the global dimensions of science to their students.
