This 24-hour live worldwide forum on topics for, by, and about current and future generations of women in engineering and technology will feature the theme "Launching Tomorrow." At any and all times during the period, a “conversation” will take place somewhere in the world on issues for, by, and about women in engineering and technology. The marathon is a combination of live internet chats, webcasts, teleconferences, and prerecorded sessions, and all are accessible to a worldwide audience.
The National Engineers Week Foundation created the marathon and is the headquarters and facilitator. Six global regions each have their own leaders and presenters, and scheduling follows the sun in 4-hour blocks: North America, Latin/South America, China, India, Africa, and UK/Europe. The marathon is an outgrowth of an Engineers Week program called Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, which occurs in February. The marathon is being held to coincide with Women’s History Month (March) and International Women’s Day (March 8, 2010).
