The institute offers workshops in field-based environmental education throughout the year at both its Environmental Learning Center and at outdoor locations throughout the Northwest. In more than 60 classes for children and adults, participants can study topics ranging from geology, history, and wildlife to nature writing and astronomy. The institute also has school and summer youth programs and a graduate program in environmental education. Classes are available for teacher clock hour certification through the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Many offer 400-level credit through Western Washington University.
