The institute, Yellowstone National Park’s official partner in public education, is a nonprofit field school with a mission of preservation through education. Field seminars cover a wide array of topics, including wolf recovery, grizzly bear ecology, birding by sight and sound, wildflowers and medicinal herbs, animal tracking, nature photography, park history, and geology and thermal features.
Scholarships for courses starting after April 1 are available to teachers on a first-come, first-served basis, and fund 100% of tuition for field seminars up to a maximum of $500 per teacher per season. (Teachers are responsible for cabin fees, as well as meals, transportation to the park, and lodging if courses are not based at one of the institute's facilities. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis.)
Seminars are taught by college professors, research scientists, park staff, and other experts. Most last from one to four days and are limited to 13 participants. Some courses are available for credit through Colorado State University or Montana State University. [hide full description]
