This annual national event (celebrated on the third Friday in May) emphasizes the importance of protecting threatened/endangered plant/animal species and highlights success stories of species recovery. Visit the website for activity ideas for in and out of the classroom, including discussions about endangered species, guest speakers, essay and art lessons, a poster activity (with some students' art to be displayed later), and field trips. Resource materials--including sample curricula, science and art lesson plans, a podcast series, teacher video, a film library (and discount), and a toolkit--are also available.

Many of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s field and regional offices will be hosting events in their communities and providing unique programs to visitors on endangered species conservation. To learn more about the FWS Endangered Species program, and explore what endangered species are near you, see www.fws.gov/endangered.
