Frequently Asked Questions
What is the digital edition?
NSTA is now supplying digital versions of the print journals you’ve come to love. Same great content, but now you can read it on your computer as well as your Kindle Fire, Android tablet/phone, or iPad/iPhone.
How do I download it?
Two ways:
- You’ll receive an e-mail from NSTA with a link to your issue, which you can use to read the issue on your computer, or
- You can download the app from the Amazon, Android, or iTunes stores, and new issues will appear on your mobile device as they are available. When one is available, you’ll download it to your device.
Do I need to log in to view the issue?
Yes, you’ll be asked for a username and password. These will be different from the NSTA website login. To access the journals via computer or app, please use your primary e-mail address—the one to which we send the e-mail alerts—as both the username AND the password.
May I share my digital issue?
Absolutely. Each issue has a built-in preview, allowing you to share 12 pages of the issue with a colleague. Just click on the share tab or button and follow the instructions.
In print, I subscribe to Science and Children. May I access any of the other journals in digital form?
Not through this vendor, but you can through the NSTA website. Just visit www.nsta.org, find the “Choose your Classroom” tab that interests you, and look for the journal archives.
May I use the app on my Nook Color, Kobo Vox, etc.?
We're investigating the app development and approval process for other mobile device readers.
In the meantime, using the browser, a reader on a tablet should be able to access the digital edition via the internet link that is sent to every member in an e-mail alert. "Downloads" are not available except through the mobile apps.
The digital edition automatically sends an alternate format to mobile devices, so ALL digital editions are available without an app, using the browser features, even though some mobile devices do not support Flash. Some features are limited and there may be no animation, video, or audio.
Now that I have access to the digital issue, may I suspend my print version?
At this time, NSTA's information systems can't accommodate the separation of journal fulfillment and membership. We are working hard at rectifying this situation so that in the future we may be able to offer a digital-only membership. In the meantime, if you find that the digital edition meets all your needs, we suggest that you put your print copy to good use by passing it along to a colleague, a friend, the school librarian, or donating it to a deserving school or group of educators. Thanks.
My institution subscribes to an NSTA Journal in print; may I view the app and/or digital journal?
At present, digital journals are only available to individual NSTA members at either the regular, new teacher, or student dues rate. Please consider joining NSTA in one of these affordable and convenient categories. Information on how to join as an individual as opposed to an institutional membership is available here. NSTA is currently exploring other options potentially available to our institutional members via our digital journal vendor. Please watch this space for updates and further information.
I just joined NSTA and subscribed to one of the journals. How quickly may I access the digital journal in app or web form?
We upload new members to the vendor's database at the end of each month. Access for new members may take as long as a month.
