Next we arrived at San Salvador Island. Like Floreana, San Salvador has been an inhabited island for more than a century. It was a site of a small colony of adventurers that had started a salt business. In fact, there have been a number of attempts to use the resources of San Salvador for commercial gain over the years. One of the most interesting features of this island are the marine grottos or caves where Galápagos sea lions and fur seals swim and romp in the surf. Also, this island is home to a large number of Galápagos Hawks that soar over the highlands and the rocky shoreline.
