A Snowy Day is an informational book on cold weather that is truly appropriate for the early primary grades. The book features 16 pages of full-color weather photographs with one short sentence of text per page. There are five highlighted vocabulary words with a picture and sentence glossary and a simple index. Three informational pages on snowflakes and snow facts could challenge advanced first grade readers or be read aloud.
Each book in the Lerner First Step Weather series comes in an inexpensive paperbound format or a higher-priced library binding. The whole series is easy to read and informational, and I especially liked the glossary and index for this grade level. This would be a great resource to have in the classroom. Our kindergarten curriculum emphasizes weather patterns, and I plan to use this to supplement our lessons.
