Carla Mooney has authored another book for children, parents, and educators that focuses on freshwater habitats and animals that live in them. The author provides a brief description and definition of various vocabulary associated with rivers and ponds that are found in different biomes. She also includes interesting facts and diagrams with each topic.

Mooney has provided information on various topics that are not commonly known to children, such as vernal pools and prairie potholes. The 25 projects are easy for children to do, with supplies that are readily available. Each project further explains the type of freshwater and life found in the habitat. The author provides a chapter on conservation and protection with activities to support these areas.

The glossary contains definitions of vocabulary and additional resources that supplement the content in the book. This book would be an excellent addition for classroom and school libraries and as a resource for school and science fair projects.
