With the busy lives that teachers lead, sometimes it is hard to find time for recreational reading, not to mention the difficulty in finding time for professional development and the reading of professional literature. This collection from NSTA has given elementary educators time–saving help preparing a "year of inquiry" in a way that is both enjoyable and low–stress.

The book contains the best of 10 months worth of articles from Science and Children issues from 2010–11. Thirty–six articles from over 50 authors have been collected into this one volume. Science content as well as cutting edge pedagogy has been included, allowing K–5 teachers easy access to quality reading.

The book has a logical flow to it, with the first sections focusing on what scientists do, on science process skills, and on science notebooking. The volume continues with articles that guide teachers in the process on moving to inquiry–based instruction. Data collection and research results are also addressed. The final section contains articles dealing with how to assess inquiry in the classroom. This comprehensive collection of articles on inquiry gives teachers the tools we need to implement inquiry–based instruction in our classrooms.

A Year of Inquiry is the perfect companion for teachers as we transition to the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.
