Breathtaking photographs and clearly–written text explain the characteristics and habits of the animals featured in each volume of this series. Bodden's style of presenting a full–page photo paired with a page of text provides young students with valuable information about these birds of prey, found in most areas on Earth but not often seen because they are nocturnal. The American Indian legend recounted in the book tells the story of why owls have large eyes.

Like other books in the series, glossary words are explained on pages where they first are mentioned. Further reading and web sites are also provided. Readers can also check out the websites for additional photos and educational videos, as well as owl sounds to encourage further exploration. Reading this book is an exciting way to learn more about these birds.
