Young children have a natural love affair with books, but it is difficult to find nonfiction, science–themed books that tap that strong interest. This series addresses that gap with five titles for the preschool and early elementary age group. The scientific process starts with questions and these books encourage children to observe, compare, and classify while learning about sound, animal, plant, and measurement concepts.
"What Can an Animal Do?" describes the behaviors of a variety of animals including familiar kittens, puppies, and horses, as well as more exotic kangaroos, sea crabs, and bullfrogs.
The simple sentence structure and brightly colored illustrations will engage preschool children as a read–aloud and encourage science literacy for beginning readers. The suggested activities at the end of the book further reinforce the importance of observation in the scientific process.
