Charming illustrations support a story of human intervention to save an orphaned sea otter pup in this NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book. The rescuers provide limited human interference in the development by using a surrogate sea otter mom before returning Seababy to his natural habitat. The book emphasized the methods that scientists and volunteers use to rehabilitate and return animals to their natural environment. This otter had to learn to find food, swim, and dive before he could be released with a reasonable hope of survival.

Sharing this book can support lessons on life cycles, ocean habitats, and the relationship between human actions and the environment in a way that the youngest learners can appreciate. There is a link to a live webcam, a note to readers, and references.
