This book is written for children in kindergarten to grade three. The topic, dirt, is one that fascinates all children.

The author includes in the materials list a notebook for children to keep records of predictions, observations, and conclusions. There are seven experiments with detailed, age–appropriate instructions complete with pictures to support the experiments.

The reviewer feels students in kindergarten and grade one will need adult help to read the instructions and answer the questions. The author has included graphics that non–reading students could follow with adult help. There are also graphics that provide students with additional instructions. The author answers the questions in an appendix.

The author also includes other resources on motion and an online site. The book would be an excellent choice for a classroom and school libraries and as a resource for science fair projects.
