Analyze predators as never before! Every possible category of predator is scrutinized—from mammals to reptiles, birds, arthropods, cnidarians, and even plants. The double-page spreads cover specific themes and categories of adaptations, with short sections of main text and many detailed captions linked to outstanding illustrations. The book also describes predators in different biomes and examines diverse predators by classifying them within the animal kingdom.

The color reproductions are magnificent, with the sort of accurate details that will bring readers back again and again. A graphic index (with thumbprints linked to specific pages) and a glossary make the book more accessible. Biologists may question the book's use of the term predator for "carnivorous" plants, because they don't use their prey for energy but for nutrients (usually nitrogen), but the overall accuracy and utility of this beautiful volume earned it an NSTA/CBC award as Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2009.
