This colorful book presents information in a kid-friendly format. There are plenty of color photographs and simple descriptions of plants and animals that live in the rainforest. The author tries to encourage questioning and build problem-solving skills by first showing large photos of tiny segments of organisms and asking questions about them. These questions are followed with a second double-page spread with answers and further information about the organisms.

Both plants and animals are examined closely. For instance, the hibiscus, squirrel monkey, tree frog, and scarlet macaw find themselves under close examination. This is a book to read aloud, and one that will be again "looked (at) closely" at a center or for independent reading. It was named an NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2011.
