After reading this NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2011, it will be impossible to smell the roses without first counting their petals! The photos, text, and graphic design all make this big and beautiful book on Fibonacci numbers in nature ideal to share with students of all ages.

Using photographs of natural objects, simple text, and labeled photographs to increase clarity, the author shows readers that many flowers and other natural objects display Fibonacci's sequence—1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and even more! The graphics are artfully designed to highlight those patterns in more complex objects like pine cones, pineapples, and shells.

It is clear that nature is ordered by mathematics; students will find the integration both natural and fascinating. There's a glossary, acknowledgements, and a section at the end offering "More about Fibonacci Numbers."
