Again and again photographer Nic Bishop has earned a place on the list of NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Books because of his skill, curiosity, and love for animals that shows through in everything he publishes. This book contains amazing photographs of lizards from around the world, with explanatory text. Students can inquire and observe directly from the photographs to learn about adaptations and biodiversity.

But there's more. As the author explains the multiple steps and the variables manipulated to capture some of the shots, readers grow to understand the methods of science. The personal and sometimes humorous stories of how Bishop got the shots he uses in the book add a dimension that will appeal to those who might not think they were interested in science in general—or lizards. It's impossible to come away from this volume without sharing some of Bishop's enthusiasm. The book includes an author's note, a glossary, an index, and a list of resources for further reading.
