This is not your typical dinosaur book. It offers readers an in-depth look at familiar dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex and diplodocus—and many that are not as well-known, such as Minmi and Heterodontosaurus. Each has a nickname as a subtitle: "Slow and Small" or "Little Chopper"—to etch their special adaptations into the memories of avid readers.

Kid-friendly text and stunning art work made this reference an NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2011. This book is a real treat and a must have for the dinosaur lover on any gift list. In addition to its index, glossary, and references, it also contains a list of places to visit and a reference appendix with facts about 1000 known dinosaurs.
