This was a fascinating study that examined the impact of instructor and teacher assistant gender on male and female students confidence for doing scientific work. The results were startling---female students become significantly more confident when taught by a female. These findings may have implications for minority students. I recommend using this article to generate a discussion about how to make effective changes in your department that will promote gender equity in the sciences.
