This journal article features two primary books. Students complete projects to answer questions students still may have after reading the books. I like the idea of using trade books in my science curriculum and having students find answers to questions about rocks that each may still have after our explorations and reading of trade books.

This is an outstanding article that offers practical suggestions for using trade books to teach about rocks. Not only does the article give a synopsis of each book, but the authors go one step further by providing lesson plan ideas for a rock investigations. The lessons plans include an inquiry planning sheet and examples of rock investigations. This article has great ideas for incorporating science investigation and literacy in an elementary classroom.
