This article has a great lesson for students to explore nanotechnology. There are fabrics now available that are stain resistant due to being coated with nanoparticles. This lesson compares nano treated fabrics with common fabircs. It is is a bit expensive to obtain the nano fabrics but the expense is worth it for the knowledge that students gain about new discoveries in science. They are also doing cutting edge experimentation.

Fifth grades students learn about nanotechnology while also building their science skills. How do you engage young children in a technology they can’t see? Students explore fabrics that contain nano particles that repel stains to see how effective they are compared to fabric that don’t contain these particles with a variety of staining substances. Students learn that observations can sometimes prove that something you can’t see is actually there.
