Science Shorts: Seeing What We Can’t See

While observation is critical to science, sometimes we cannot observe things directly. Sometimes things happened long ago (in paleontology, for example) or are too small to observe (like atoms). Many students believe that science progresses only through direct observation. Students may also believe that giant microscopes give us insight into atoms, for example. The corresponding lesson with this article can introduce your students to the small world and how it is studied.
