This article can be seen as beneficial due to it's simplicity. The article goes through a series of simple activities to show different types of waves and how they move. The activities are just right for the elementary grade level and I can imagine students will grasp right on. I like how this article starts with a real life example of waves that most children will think of right off the bat; ocean waves. This allows the children to bring in prior knowledge to help them learn new concepts. In my classroom, I would use a set up like this to teach about waves because I believe it will stick with the students. Overall, great lesson/article!

After reading this activity I was bothered by both parts of it. The food coloring falling to the bottom of the glass would be better observed if one stood eye level to a clear glass of room temperature water. (Place food coloring in ice cubes before using it would accomplish the drop falling to the bottom and staying there longer). Looking through the clear glass by one of the team members from the side would be a better observational point before tapping on the water. The second activity described using the marbles does not represent wave motion very well. (This is a demo for momentum and the conservation of energy.) Using a slinky with a ribbon attached would be better as a demo. Have two students holding each end and having students observe the movement of the ribbon as one child creates waves by jerking one end up and down quickly. In short, I think these activities require reworking.
