This article was very helpful and informational. It started off by giving us a class scenario. Both activities were hands-on. In the first activity, the students are only carrying out the experiment. It is in the second activity that they are asking questions, observing, and "inquiring". This reminded me of science labs, in general. We can't really complete an experiment without inquiring first. It's necessary. I like the 5E learning cycle that was mentioned in the article. It's a very useful method especially for children; explore, engage, explain, extend and apply, and evaluate. This process gives us a clear pathway not only in science but for life in general. It's a great way to gain knowledge.

This article starts off by explaining how a teacher would conduct a science experiment in class and have her students observe. The article gives two examples and explains how the second scenario is an inquiry activity because the students are actively investigating a question, they want to know the answer to. The students observation is what entices their curiosity and has them inquire. The article does a fantastic job of describing how to teach younger students using inquiry-based learning. It also explains how to use the students' curiosity to your advantage in the classroom. Children have many questions and are curious about many things. I personally enjoy when students ask me questions and want to know more. During my clinical work, I encouraged my students to be curious and inquire about their class assignments. With the right instruction and assistance they can learn to think like scientists. The article also mentions the 5E learning cycle, which is an important part of teaching a science lesson. As a future teacher this was super helpful. I can look back at this and use it to see what skills are necessary to do scientific inquiry.

The Journal Article “Methods & Strategies: : “Inquirize” Your Teaching”starts off by giving the reader two different scenarios on how to approach the same lesson. Although both methods are hands-on the way in which they approached the lesson made them very distinct. In one scenario students are conducting the experiment but not as involved when it comes to “answering a question for themselves”, this is a major component of inquiry. In the second scenario the children are actively engaging and taking matters into their own hands when it comes to investigating a question that they pose. The article states that the 5E learning cycle model is a great guideline that is useful while creating lessons. The first E is for “an Engage”, this is something that is meant to captivate a student’s curiosity on a question. The following E stands for Explore, students will be able to explore the answer to the question, it is critical that the results of the activity actually answers their question, if it does not one must alter it so that it does provide some answers. The third E stands for “Explain” this is where the information collected during the investigation are further analyzed and interpreted without a bias. The fourth is “extend and apply” this is where students must apply their newfound knowledge to previous lessons/concepts and to the “real world”. The final E is “evaluate”, students must evaluate “where the understandings are assessed”. This article was highly informative and would definitely be useful while creating a lesson plan. It is very important to keep children’s minds curious and showing them that they are capable of coming up with a solution rather than just presenting it to them.

This is an excellent how-to article that would be very useful to teachers who want more inquiry in their classroom.

I appreciated the application/explanation of the 5E model alongside a real-world lesson. I agree with 99% of the article, except for where it state the most important aspect of the engage portion of the 5E model is to frame questions related to the lesson. I slightly disagree with this - as I believe it is most important to gain student's interest and spark their natural curiosity at this phase of instruction. If you meet that challenge, the opportunity for focused questions will present itself.
