This journal article lays out a highiy creative multi-day approach to teaching the water cycle, built around Thomas Locker's book, The Water Dance. The lesson plan assumes that students have already had some exposure to water study (e.g. the importance of water; the water cycle). It facilitates exploration of those concepts through the arts. Students connect their scientific understandings to the gorgeous text and images contained in Locker's book. They also have an opportunity to do their own creative writings - and express their understandings through drama. Great ideas for an arts based curriculum!

The authors describe a multi-day lesson focused around Thomas Locker's book, Water Dance. By asking students to review the poems without the pictures, they were able to identify student misconceptions. By the end of the lesson, the students were not only engaged, they had a means to help them to scaffold further learning on the water cycle. The construction of the lesson asks students to reflect on the literature and later the artwork showing the water cycle and provided a multi-level cognitive experience an engagement activity or at upper levels (high school for instance) a model for students to use to create their own creative model of a system (like this one of the water cycle).
