I think this is a great way to get students involved and excited to learn/talk about weather. By incorporating the blogging aspect, the process and information becomes more relevant to students. Technology is becoming a big part of today's education so whenever it can be included, students typically are more involved. This can also be easily crossed with language arts for students' daily entries. Requiring students use the writing conventions properly. I also found it helpful that stduents are able to comment on their peers' ideas and vote on the individuals' entries that are most accurate.

This short journal article describes a wonderful project-based approach to teaching elementary school students about weather and weather forecasting. although it was done using a fourth grade class, i think it could also be used with middle school students quite effectively. Students are tasked to make a weather forecast, and from that end task, they learn about weather instruments, air pressure, forecast models, and many other important aspects of meteorology before creating their own weather forecast. They also use technology to present their forecasts, and their motivation for tscience increased considerably!

I really like this idea. I am planning on teaching pre-school but there are things in this article that I could do with pre-school age that would really help them understand weather. I have a 4th grader and I think I am going to do this project with her.
