This article takes a standard ‘cook-book’ demonstration and turns it into an inquiry lesson. Students view the demo and decide what they want to explore. Questions are posed and testable questions are determined. From there students continue to explore variables of their choice. The rubric for assessing student learning is very good. This technique makes a simple teacher centered demo into an inquiry lesson where students are in control of their own learning.
