This article explains how a preschool teacher was able to help young children do safe hands-on activities to learn about spiders and their webs. After first spotting a web in the school yard students were encouraged to look for and not touch other spider webs. After viewing webs from photos and group brainstorming students were encouraged to make a large web with tape and string. Paper models of spiders were made and children acted out what spiders did. Learning included being read to from trade and story books. The sequencing of activities helped these youngsters gain a better understanding of the world around them.
