This article chronicles the summer professional development experience of an elementary teacher as she learns about water on the bayou and oyster development. At the end of the project the teachers presented their research and conclusions much like a science poster session at scientific conventions. What really makes this article great is her experience taking what she learned and creating a real-time research activity with her fifth grade class. This is a great article showing how self-learning can be extended to your students.
