Classroom management is always a key to a successful teacher but not all management techniques work. This article describes some methods of classroom management based upon research. Making a well designed plan and preparing is part of the process but you also have to follow through and make your students understand what is expected of them as they enter your room and prepare for that day’s activities. Included in this article is a student’s worksheet on classroom procedure that might be helpful for all teachers.

I'm a huge fan of Harry and Rosemary Wong's book, The First Days of School, so I was excited to see this article in the NSTA journal! True to authors' form, this article provides excellent classroom management advice for classroom teachers. In addition to excellent advice, the article provides real classroom examples of the ideas in practice and details how teachers use the procedures in their classrooms. This is an excellent article that is a must read for all teachers!

As a middle school science teacher about to enter the elementary classroom again for the first time in years, I was looking for a refresher to help me prepare my classroom. (Middle school teachers don't take lunch count, among other things.) This article was an excellent refresher for those of us who might not have read Harry Wong's, "The First Days of School" in a while. As I read, the similarities between this article and Wong's book astounded me. Sure enough, Harry Wong is a co-author of this article. Great resource!
