This article gives a great example of using a picture book to help students understand the concept of motion. The book that is "read" to the students has only pictures. The teacher narrates the book on her own and students can also contribute to the discussion of the books by using their imaginations or even acting out the book. This helps students understand the concept of motion. Picture books are excellent to help students understand science concepts, but as the article states, teachers need to beware of misconceptions that show up in pictures books.
