This is one of the best articles I have read about engineering design being used in the science classroom. First it discusses two misconceptions that teachers may have about engineering design activities. They are: “Design tasks rarely have single “right” answers.” and “Design tasks are very different from step-by-step construction activities.“ The article goes on to discuss six habits that students can fall into during the engineering design process and how to handle them. The article relates all of this information to NGSS. The article ends with a great analogy between teachers as designers of lessons and students designing things.
