The reason I chose this article is that I have written a lesson plan about the concept of a plant before, and I want to use the content of this article to see what problems I have not considered. After reading this article, I realized that I did not consider the students' understanding of the small concept of plants when designing the formative assessment. I think I will notice this in my future curriculum design and apply it to my future classes.

The probe described in this article would not only be excellent for elementary school students as a pre-assessment for student understanding, but it could also be used for both middle school and high school students as well. I intend to use it with my high school Earth Science students to determine their understanding at the beginning of our unit. Then we will revisit the probe at the end of the unit. Students can revise their thoughts in writing (in their lab notebooks) so they are more in line with scientific thinking.
