This activity can be a great way to pre-assess your students and see what they may already know when teaching about animals. It provides an opportunity for student to think about what they consider an animal and why. A teacher can use this information to introduce the topic of animals to younger students in early elementary grade levels and build on the topic.

In this article you are taught how to do a study with your students. You will be asking them to identify whether the picture is an animal or not. This activity is structured very well and if I am ever with children that struggle with a task like this I would do an activity that is similar. What I also love about this study is that it can allow for teachers to see their student's prior knowledge on how to classify whether the image shown is a living thing or not. Overall, I enjoyed this article and loved the added materials.
