This article describes how a group of preservice teachers gathers to create an event called ‘The Iron Scientist’ loosely modeling the TV show the Iron Chef. Students were given a ‘secret ingredient’ right before the competition started. In this case the students had to come up with an activity or lesson that used pennies as their secret ingredient within a time frame of 45 minutes. A team of methods instructors were used as judges for this competition. This activity would be a fun way to run an inservice program for teachers during the year using science specialists as the judges.
