Some of the most common observations made by students, have some of the most difficult concepts to teach. As teachers, we try to teach them the "correct" concept, however our students somehow manage to form misconceptions. This article provides a series of easily reproduced activities to reinforce the role that plants play in gas-related processes. The activities are easily adaptable for all grades. The one item that some teachers might not have, a CO2 sensor, might be borrowed from a nearby high school. These activities also lead to concept developing discussions by the students themselves, introducing vocabulary within the activities. The activities suggested in this article flow into various content areas throughout the year, allowing wonderful Journal reflections as the year progresses. I highly recommend this article for novice through experienced teacher.

This article describes an activity that is familiar to experienced educators...placing a plastic bags over outdoor plants and observing the precipitation and transpiration.
