This article details a great 5E lesson that enables students to explore dinosaurs while practicing their metric measuring skills. Students will surely be engaged as they explore dinosaurs, gain an understanding of scaled models, and practice metric measurement. I look forward to using this activity with my students!

The authors present a 5E lesson using models of dinosaurs and size and distance of footprints with ratios to determine the size of the dinosaur. This is a great way to integrate ratio problems and data tables to solve science questions and gets students thinking like scientists. Once students understand how math can be used to solve these types of problems they could extend it to see if the formula worked on their favorite pet (mamalian or reptile - I don't think fish would work!) or even themselves as extentions. It shows students that there is a reason and application to math and science information using an inquiry process to do so.
