The authors talk about the “dynamic synergy between the visual arts and the natural sciences.” They list and compare parallel skills that both the scientist and artist need for success in the 21st century. In one figure, they list and compare strategies for integrating art and science; in other figures, they show several student examples in which art and science are integrated, and they include a rubric to further access their students. This article is very well thought out and developed. It would be an excellent article for any teacher, in all grade levels to read if they are considering increasing the communication skills of their students. They believe that the value of an arts-based approach to scientific literacy is well worth the classroom time invested.
