The article provides a map of current and proposed oil pipelines, problems that pipelines encounter, examples of spills that have taken place, and dangers of the type of fuel being transported to flora and fauna. It is a bit one-sided, most of the references are from organizations opposed to the pipeline and a minimal amount of time/space are devoted to benefits and those seem to focus mainly on short term jobs, although long-term property taxes are mentioned. I think it is a nice summary of one point of view on this issue. While I do not disagree with the author, to present a balanced point of view to students and teach them to think things through, one would need more information concerning the reasons why some feel it is necessary to build this and possibly for alternatives to the pipeline as well. But it does provide good resources for the dangers.
