This is a great lesson plan for data collection and analysis in relation to teaching the reasons for the seasons and Earth's orbit in relation to sunlight. The lesson plan is detailed and well written. I especially like that it is written in a 5E learning cycle format. With the NGSS right around the corner, this lesson would be great for incorporating data collection with content. Highly recommended!

Using a modified learning cycle students explore the seasons using effective questioning, data analysis, and performance assessments. The authors describe their learning cycle as a 4E --Engage, Explore, Explain, and Extend, and the “× 2” is formative assessment and reflective practice during each E. This activity, applied to middle school students, is very good. Furthermore seeing the application of this modified lesson cycle is also a plus resulting in a good reason to read this article.
