This article features two activities designed to instruct students about their local watersheds. The first, which involves the use of GPS in a walking tour of the school, can be easily accomplished if you have access to GPS units. The second, which involves analyzing gis data, is a bit more challenging as it requires familiarity with GIS software. Many teachers may not feel that the time necessary to master the software or to write directions and analysis questions specific to their geographic area will be worth the effort. For those familiar with GIS software, the activities within the article will act as a stimulus for the creation of additional authentic data-collecting activities.
